The House of Tiles in Mexico
This North American country that is known for tequila, gorgeous women and pyramid ruins is really worth visiting. The rich culture of the place makes it one of the must-see destinations in the whole world. Its people are mostly Spanish speakers, and the place offers breathtaking architectural structures to tourists. And speaking of which, there is one spot in the country that is very famous among citizens and visitors alike—the Casa de los Azulejos.
The 16th-century palace located in the heart of the city is built by the Count del Valle de Orizaba family. Its interesting history started with when the Count and Countess of Orizaba ordered for the renovation of their home in 1737. Its façade was then replaced with expensive white and blue tiles from the state of Puebla. The mansion stayed in private ownership until near the end of 19th century. From 1881, it functioned as a private men’s club and was then converted into a drug store and soda fountain when it was bought by the Sanborns brothers who expanded their business into one of the best-recognised restaurant chains and department stores in Mexico. This is now considered as a good place to stop for lunch.
Directly situated at the corner of Filomena Mata and Francisco Madero Street, this Talavera-made structure got its popular name from the fact that the royal family really covered it with extravagant bricks to show their immense wealth. Its noble look makes it a sensational destination in this Spanish country. The windows, balconies and doors are framed with carved stone and French porcelain crowns. Inside, the main courtyard contains a mosaic-filled fountain, while the roof is made of glass, and the railings are constructed with copper. There are two large murals in the interior, and a collection of porcelain art is also showcased.
Casa de los Azulejos of Mexico has gained a famous reputation among travellers. This primary tourist spot is also considered as one of the world’s well-built tiled structures.
