How to Choose Kitchen Tiles

Kitchen tiles are subject to lots of abuse. High traffic, heavy furniture, and hot spills all take their toll on them. Therefore, you need to choose your kitchen tiles carefully. First, choose a thick tile — the thicker, the better. Resist the urge to buy wall tiles that have beautiful designs. Wall tiles are flimsy and are not designed to bear heavy weights. Choose tile types that are scratch-resistant and hard-wearing since you are going to put heavy appliances on them. Porcelain and polished natural stone tiles like granite or marble are best suited for kitchen flooring. Alternately, you can use slate or terracotta tiles which give the floor a much more natural and homely look. However, they are naturally porous and can be stained easily. So, you may need to use a sealant or wax to protect them from stains.

Another important item that you must consider when installing kitchen tiles is the grout. Look for an epoxy grout to prevent moisture from seeping between the tiles. It would also be a good idea to use a grout with anti-bacterial protection to help make your kitchen a clean place.
