How to Apply Grout between Tiles
Grout is a soft construction material that is used to fill voids and seal joints between tiles. To apply it properly on your newly installed tiles, follow these steps. First, remove all the spacers by prying them away with a putty knife. This is an important step because embedded spacers can cause cracks in the grout as the filling dries. Next, mix the grout according to the manufacturer’s instructions, mixing one bag at a time. Pour half of the filling material on the tiles. Using a rubber float, spread the grout evenly into the joints. In some areas, you may have to coax the substance tightly into the spaces between the tiles using a soft sponge. Once the first half of your mix is used up, get a soft damp cloth or sponge to wipe away the excess grout. Remember that the stuff becomes more difficult to remove as it hardens. Rinse the sponge often with clean water to avoid leaving a residue on your newly grouted tiles. Once this is done, repeat the entire process until the entire tiled space is covered.
