Glass Tiles as Decoration

For many centuries, glass has been a common feature in mosaic media. It is used to decorate building interiors and exteriors. Whether in residences or industries, this material is considered a high-end solution because of its durability and great resistance against the changing climate.

Aside from its durable and weather-resistant properties, a glass mosaic is easy to maintain and clean as well. Moreover, it does not discolour easily. All of its wonderful qualities make it suitable for any part in your house, from your bathroom to your kitchen. So, if you want to make your home more glamorous, decorate with glass tiles.

There are four primary types of crystal tesserae based on their means of production. Each kind is suitable for various house-remodelling projects. Common varieties include the following:

Fused tile – this is manufactured through fusion wherein a flat piece of glass is carved into desired forms and heated in the furnace. Then, the material is treated with colours, which is added to either the bottom or top surface. Some fused mosaic tiles are further applied with carvings or coating finishes. You can use this material in your bathroom to give the area a contemporary and elegant look. It is also ideal for pool floors if you like to reflect the sun’s rays.

Smalti tile – this is an opaque variety, which is further categorised into Byzantine, metallic, translucent, and gold. If you hire a tiling contractor, you can have your entire living room or bathroom wall decked with this. In fact, you can even have the tesserae depict story lines or abstract patterns, depending on your preferences.

The other two types are cast and sintered, which are mostly used as paving or flooring solutions. If you want to know more about tiles, you can find helpful information on this website.
